Citizen Fins Encounters Update (November 2020)

Thank you very much to everyone who has submitted bottlenose dolphin photographs to the Citizen Fins project so far! Below is a map the team has composed to help display exactly where we have received photographs from (up to mid-end November 2020), with a high number of entries from around Scarborough and Berwick-upon-Tweed.

We have had some great encounter pictures sent to us that have been taken from both land and boat, from which we have been able to successfully identify individual animals. For example, we know that dolphins 965 (Albus), 1026 and 1150 have all been seen off Scarborough. You can check out these individuals’ markings in the photo catalogue on our website. And if you are submitting photos to the Citizen Fins project, please feel free to have a go at identifying the dolphins in your pictures from the catalogue!

We will keep updating the map periodically as additional data arrives and are looking forward to receiving more of your bottlenose dolphin photos. Please initially submit these via the form on the main section of our website – we are interested in photos from any year, not just 2020! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at: [email protected].
